Doing more and more, with less and less

If the budget amendments Proposed my Governor McDonnell are enacted, public schools stand to lose another $74 million in state funding. If the amendments are enacted state funding will have been reduced by 14% since 2004.
Interesting to note that while the state has continued to reduce funding our teachers and students have continued to excell. Education Week recently released their report card on school achievement placing Virginia at number four in the country behind Maryland, New York and Massachusetts.
What do our teachers get for this accomplishment? Less funds to do their job. And now, Governor McDonnell wants teachers to begin contributing 5% to their retirement system which will result in a loss of take home pay. VSRS has been underfunded as our politicians have borrowed from the fund to balance the general fund. Now teachers are being asked to fix a problem they didn't create.
Teaching...What a great profession.To bad Bob McDonnell doesn't know that.
